Iacobella Gaetani

Iacobella Gaetani was born in Naples in 1956. She met Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in 1978 at the Lucumitoni retreat in Sardinia. While living in Nepal she began studying Tibetan language at the Tribhuvar University in Kathmandu. In 1982, after returning to Italy, she continued studying Tibetan at the University of Oriental Studies in Naples. She graduated with a thesis on the analysis of two ancient Tibetan funeral rituals from the Buddhist and Bon traditions after carrying out field research in Northern India. She translated from Tibetan into Italian and English The Practice of Long life of the Immortal Dakini Mandarava by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu. She has collaborated on various translation projects as well as translating orally from Tibetan for various teachers and Tibetan doctors. Forthcoming translations include The Temple of Great Liberation by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and The Collected Works of Jamyang Chödron (Chögyal Namkhai Norbu’s eldest sister). She lives in a farmhouse in Tuscany, near Merigar where she raised her family. She currently teaches English Language and Literature at local secondary schools.
